Carbohydrates play a central role in determining the growth and yield of grapevines. At the start of the season the amount of stored carbohydrates can influence shoot growth and the early stages of inflorescence development. During the season the supply of carbohydrates from photosynthesis is important for yield establishment, berry ripening and the replenishment of stored reserves. Through manipulation of carbohydrate supply and demand through the season, and the management of vineyards during the post-harvest period, this presentation will discuss how knowledge of grapevine carbohydrates can be used to assist with the regulation of vineyard productivity.
