AWRI Webinar: Recent advances in yield forecasting: rapid, reliable estimation tools
Date(s) - 24 Sep 2013
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Greg Dunn (National Wine and Grape Industry Centre)
At various stages during each season, wineries ask grape growers to provide forecasts of yield. Differences between expected intake and actual delivery can lead to a chain reaction of problems spreading throughout the entire process of wine production and distribution, affecting harvest organisation, regional pricing negotiations, intake scheduling, tank space allocation, investment in winery capital equipment and the development of marketing strategies for domestic and export markets. This presentation will describe best practice yield forecasting for individual vineyard blocks as well as regional forecasts. Details about what needs to be done to get the best out of any forecast will be followed by a description of what can be realistically obtained using current technology. Finally, the potential for a range of research options to dramatically improve the cost and accuracy of yield forecasts will be discussed.
