The focus of this informal but highly informative workshop will be the role and value of media releases, how to write them and where to send them.
But media releases are just a part of the media game – and, if they work well, they might even lead to interviews. So, the workshop will also provide an important insight into how the media game works, and what your and the media’s expectations are when generating news stories. The workshop will also finish up with some tips about how to respond if contacted by a journalist, and how to prepare for and then do an interview.
In between all that, the workshop will take a closer look at media releases, let you know what some leading wine journalists have told us about how they use and value media releases they receive, and get you all involved in assessing some releases you and your peers have written.
The workshop will be led by former journalist and Winemakers’ Federation of Australia Communications Manager Nick Carne with help from myself – a former journalist/editor and WCA Programs Manager – and other experienced members of the WCA SA Chapter. Workshop notes will also be handed out to participants.
This will be a fun and informal session, designed to be interactive, so your thoughts and comments will be welcomed and encouraged. If you’re feeling particularly brave and interactive – we’d love you to submit some examples of media releases you may have written to aid further discussion. Send them through to Jen Barwick at [email protected]
